fla:

please Tiny team tag the 5-0 branch with a 5.0.1 tag!
Indeed, just think how many people will have to know if a given Launchpad bug (with a reference to a commit revision please) is in or out the 5.0.1, or for an integrator, you just make it harder to integrate coming patches.
So please, that's simple, just tag all the 5-0 branch at the revision that is included in 5.0.1.

Aside from that, thank you for that version and congrats for the work.

Raphael Valyi.

BTW,

overall this version contains A LOT of bugfixes and this is welcome. Still, for those interrested, there might be a regression with prodlot check controls:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/openerp/+bug/338329

I'm not sure if that's a regression against 5.0.0.3 or against a revision from 5-0 branch between those two. As I get some time, I confirm the regression so that it could be fixed later. Regression are always annoying (and the test suite will certainly them avoiding them in the future). Aside from that I'm not aware of any regression that's I'm sure about, may be with partial pickings ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/openobject-addons/+bug/338289 ) but Tiny said it was fixed. No confirmation from me however, our customer went patched so far. Still, no question this release should be used as the base instead of the old ones considering the number of important bugs it fixes.

Regards,

Raphael Valyi.

Guys,

BTW,

I would not recommend using Openbravo over OpenERP currently (because features are really little or faked + it's so much more expensive to develop on their platform due to their tons of procedural pl/SQL legacy code), but just to show what is professionnal change management:
http://wiki.openbravo.com/wiki/ERP/2.50/API_changes
I know that you might not have the resources, but if you could have the community or have resources doing that king of things, that would definitely make OpenERP more professionnal.

I have used Fabien's code for a while (feels like 8+ years). While I
know where and how to see the changes I could understand a list of
reasons "why I would want to upgrade". Maybe a community member could
offer his/her time to maintain a list on a wiki page instead of
expecting that the busy developers do this.

If you have a complaint then you have an opportunity to help.

Hello,

This new version contains only bugfixes. You can get the list of bugfixes fixed in the period on launchpad.

There is only one API change, here is a copy of the communication I sent a the time of the change:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We plan to apply some modifications in v5 that may be backward incompatible.
The report engine of v5 is quite slow, so we wrote a new engine, based on
the same technology with lots of speed improvements. The current new engine
is available on this branch:
lp:~openerp-commiter/openobject-server/5.0-print/

The results we have with this new branch are very impressive. We tested on
printing 300 sales orders, with 3 lines each:
* Old V5: 2 minutes 30 seconds
* New Branch: 10 seconds

The new report engine consumme also much less memory, the whole 'big'
RML/XML is not anymore in memory and the whole process is now streamlined. The old
report may become very very slow on big reports if not enough memory. You
can easily generate reports of 10.000 pages with the new engine.

We tried to be API compatible and it was ok for all addons reports. So this
change should not be a problem for your own reports. But we changed the way
repeatIn, removeParentNodes and setPara at processed. If your reports have
complex expressions for one of those tag, you may have to retest them on the
new version.

Also, by default all <para> does the return to the new line automatically if
you display text tags of several lines of text.

Please note that our teams started to integrate an integration server to track and test all the changes. The base_module_quality is, in my opinion, mature to be used to automate tests on module. I would be happy to get feedback on it. It i designed to work with the web client.

Great news !
However I have a few suggestions:
- make a proper release in launchpad BEFORE public annoncement
- Fill the "Changelog" and the "Release notes" in launchpad and in files in downloaded packages.

For now, I am pleased to get a new version but I wish I knew what changed with regards of the previous version, know what I mean ...
